Two Days, Two Unique Business Angel Ecosystems

Updated: Jul 29, 2019

Thanks to the ESIL programme, funded by the European Commission, Business Angels Europe will be visiting two innovation and investing powerhouses on 12 and 13 September: Eindhoven and the Ruhr.

Eindhoven is a real success story of how the triple helix can work together to create the “Smartest square KM of the World”. The home of Philips has become famous for developing novel high tech hardware, photonics, Medtech as well as solar powered cars. Business Angels Netwerk Nederland gives us the opportunity to go to High Tech Campus and HealthWorks, a breakthrough MedTech accelerator powered by Phillips.

But we will not focus on Eindhoven alone.

We will dive into the Dutch Business Angel market, learning best practices in business angel syndication, cross border cooperation, and benefit from in-depth analyses on health investing.

After, the participants will cross the border to the Ruhr region of Germany. There, Business Angels Netzwerk Deutschland gives us the chance to experience the UNESCO World Heritage Site Zeche Zollverein in Essen. Crucially, we will learn how the area has transitioned from a coal mining hub to a digital hotspot - and what role business angels continue to play in this effort.

Further, we'll travel to the Ruhr Hub, a world-class accelerator for digital start-ups, and discuss how Germany rewards and sustains their business angels. There will also be a guided tour at the Impact Hub, an innovative accelerator designed to support social entrepreneurs.

Naturally, there will be plenty of opportunity to network with Business Angels from the regions and from all over Europe.

Please note that there are no registration costs for this Study Visit.
