Making the European Angel Market Stronger

Updated: Dec 10, 2019

On 7 and 8 November, more than 230 participants from around the world descended upon the heart of the European continent for the International Business Angels Congress. Ghent provided the backdrop for a packed two days with ample opportunity for investing, benchmarking, learning and networking.

Day 1 started with a startup Mercato where tens of startups had to opportunity to mix and mingle with the visiting investors. In the afternoon the plenary programme kicked off with a mix of inspiring speakers: entrepreneurs, business angels, researchers and policy makers. All of them coming together to answer the key question: how can we make the European Angel market stronger? We were especially happy to see Business Angels Europe President Luigi Amati coming together with EBAN President Peter Cowley to present The European Business Angel Barometer. In the evening to participants came together in the beautiful Ghent City Hall for a walking dinner.

Day 2 was a full clinic and workshop day for participants to share practical tips and benchmark effectively. We were pleased and proud to have both the business angel perspective being heard by numerous European Commission representatives, who in turn presented their initiatives to support angel investing in Europe.

We want to thank BAN Vlaanderen for opening up their annual Business Angels day to an international audience, and for Be Angels for throwing their weight behind this initiative. Naturally we are thankful as well to all our partners: the city of Ghent, ING Bank Belgium, the ESIL Programme and EIT Health. Without them the congress would not have been a success.
